Create a cozy retreat with a stone patio

April 26, 2013 | By webadmin

Do you have a corner in your yard that is neglected and you just aren't sure what to do with it? How about a stone patio? Patios built with stone and decomposed granite can be the perfect solution for a trouble spot in the yard or a lack of outdoor living space. Here is an example of how we took an unused corner of a yard and turned it into a cozy patio retreat!

As you can see, the owners at this home just weren't sure what to do with this unused but shady corner of their yard. It seemed like the perfect place to create a shady summer patio area. So we got to work on our design and started excavating the area.

Once we had the area cleared and prepped, we started installing a rock bed creek, path and circular stone patio. What a difference already!

Here is the new stone patio  right after installation was complete. We build some garden beds around the patio which are planted with shade loving plants like pittosporum, bear's breech (Acanthus), a cascading Japanese maple and more. As plants grow and fill in, they will create a lush envelope for the patio. We also added a beautiful glazed urn which we turned into a bubbler fountain. Add your favorite patio and furniture and you have the perfect stylish patio retreat.

Custom stone patios can be built in any shape or style to fit your entertaining needs and your home's architecture.  With a base of decomposed granite,  these stone patios are also water permeable surfaces, which is good for your trees and landscape.
