Mulch Plays a Role in Your Organic Garden Design

March 7, 2013 | By webadmin

The main reasons to use mulch in your North Texas garden beds are for weed control, water retention, and lastly, to keep roots warm in the winter and cool in the summer. By the way, our friends the earthworms and other beneficial organisms, love to have a mulch roof over their heads for those same reasons.

The best performing plants are those that have access to a consistent supply of water and nutrients, and mulch helps with this. After watering, over time mulch breaks down and provides nutrients to the roots, earthworms, and soil organisms. The shallow roots right under the soil surface can easily grab the food as it becomes available.
