Don’t have a landscape budget? Under-estimating costs can result in big disappointment!

Good landscaping is one of the best investments you can make in your property. The return on investment on landscaping is better than any other improvement you can make in your home. Yet, most people really underestimate what good quality landscaping actually costs. In reality, good landscaping can cost significantly more than other home renovation projects.

PLAN

Good people and plants don’t come cheap. A poorly designed and installed landscape done on the cheap will only cost you more in repairs and replacements down the road. The difference is definitely in the design, so don’t skip this crucial step. Invest in a well-crafted landscape design plan and your money will be much better spent on the right plants and installation.

So, how should you ballpark what to spend on a landscape renovation? A good target is to budget 10% of your home’s value on a full landscape renovation. If your home is valued at $300,000, then $30,000 is a good target budget. However, costs will really depend on what you want to accomplish in your individual landscape. Wishing for a pool, outdoor kitchen or other specialty feature? Be sure to budget in extra for these larger construction projects.

While the cost of truly good landscaping may cause some initial sticker shock, remember that you always get your investment back on good landscaping when you sell your home. If don’t plan to sell your home, then a beautiful landscape will be an outdoor room you can enjoy with your family for many years to come.
