Chinese Fringe Flower: Perfect shrub for a natural landscape.

May 16, 2014 | By webadmin

We love Chinese fringe flower (Loropetalum sp.) for its graceful branches, deep purple foliage and bright, wispy flowers. Standard and dwarf varieties are available for both the landscape and pottery. Loropetalum makes an excellent colorful backdrop for other shrubs and perennials in an informal garden.

Certain shrubs are perfect for using as formal pruned hedges, such as boxwood and holly. Loropetalum, however, do not tolerate that kind of regular shearing. Loropetalum have a natural open form that should be maintained by tip pruning, rather than shearing.

Loropetalum pruned such as the ones in the photo above will often become thin and unhealthy.

When left to grow into their natural shape, Loropetalum creates a soft look and texture in the garden.

If you’re looking for a colorful natural backdrop for your garden, Loropetalum is an excellent low-maintenance choice.
