Soften the Landscape with Circles

Distinctive shapes in the landscape can set the tone for the entire design; from the modern lines of the square to the geometrical feeling of the triangle. To soften a landscape, we think the perfect shape is the circle. It’s continuous curved line is comfortable to the eye and is a shape often found in nature … tree trunks, stones, and flower blooms to name a few.

Circles are perfect shapes for seating areas because when furniture is properly placed in a circle, everyone can see each other. They can be can be formal or casual. Elegant with singular rows of plants planted in circular patterns within or wild planted with a mix of perennials, annuals and shrubs. We love gardens in circular shapes, but we also love them as pure design elements such as large, round cement or metal stepping platforms.

Shapes, such as circles, can also be repeated through a landscape with features like pottery, fountains and ponds. Fences, benches, trellises and more can all be built using circular patters to tie the entire look together. If you're looking to create a soft, soothing and relaxing garden space in which to relax, using circles in the design is an excellent choice.
