2. Gator Bags are a great tool for keeping newly planted trees watered while you're away. These large water-holding bags are placed around the trunk of the tree or shrub and release a slow drip of water to the root zone. You can find them at your local garden center or home improvement store.

3. If you will be on an extended vacation, have your maintenance crew continue to mow and trim your lawn and garden. A tidy home looks lived in! If you mow the lawn yourself and you’ll be gone longer than two weeks, hire someone to mow while you are away. Details here.

4. Don’t forget container plants! Our irrigation specialists can hook your containers up to drip lines from your irrigation system. Local garden centers also stock smaller drip irrigation kits specifically for container gardens. Be sure to pick up a timer to attach to your kit.

5. Don’t forget to have your mail taken in or stopped at the post office, and have a neighbor pick up your newspaper.

Here’s to a safe summer and happy travels!
