Renovate Your Irrigation System this Winter

November 18, 2014 | By webadmin

Now that temperatures are cooling and precipitation is increasing, it’s time to reduce your extra irrigation in the landscape. You simply don’t need to water as often as in summer. If you have an automatic irrigation system, you may even want to turn it off and only water the lawn and landscape using the system manually every couple of weeks if there is no rainfall. Often, when we leave our systems on this time of year, they’ll run when the landscape really isn’t in need of extra water. This not only wastes water, but it can cause disease problems or kill plants that don’t like wet winter soil.

Is your irrigation system in need of repair? Winter is a great time to fix any repairs that need to be take care of. Because irrigation repair can often entail digging up old pipes and trenching for new ones, most of us try to avoid that kind of work while our gardens look their best. After many plants have frozen back or gone dormant during cold weather, we typically have easier access to make irrigation repairs without disturbing your display.

Is your sprinkler system wasting water? Unfortunately, most dated systems can put more water into the air than they do into your soil. Problems with pressure and the types of irrigation heads you’re using can be to blame. Leaks, broken heads or bad zoning are also culprits. Even if you have an old system, it can be renovated with more modern hardware, such as rain/freeze sensors, in order to save water. We can even help you hydrozone your landscape by grouping plants that share the same water requirements. When you hydrozone your landscape, you’ll save water and have a more beautiful landscape.

We have licensed irrigation specialists on staff to adjust, repair and maintain your irrigation system at any time during the year. We offer single, as-needed service, or choose from one of our yearly irrigation service options. A monthly irrigation service, or eight inspections per year. Whichever you choose, you’ll feel confident that your water is going where it needs to go and at the right time.

Give us a call this month for an irrigation consultation.
