Landscapes aren’t just about plants: See our top hardscape features!

Obviously, we love plants! Foliage, blooms and texture are all integral elements of a landscape. A landscape would be nothing without plants. Hardscape components, however, are incredibly important as well. The mixture of plants and stone riverbeds, boulders, gravel pathways, pergolas and even fire pits are what makes a landscape interesting and complete.
When designing a landscape with clients, they often think that added stonework will be time consuming and expensive. We are sensitive to this and offer suggestions such as 2-day patios like the one we discussed in a previous blog post. This cozy patio took just a few days and didn’t break the bank!
- Dry riverbeds and gravel pathways are also simple ways to define an area or as a solution to a spot in the landscape where plants have a hard time thriving.
- Large boulders make wonderful focal points, especially in heat-hardy gardens with yuccas, agaves, and salvia.
- Simple flat stones and crushed granite or pebbles create lovely walkways.
The options are endless when it comes to stonework and hardscaping. We’ve set up a Hardscape Idea Book on Houzz for you to browse through and we encourage you to start your own Idea Book that we can discuss with you. Which designs are your favorite? Let’s get together soon and come up with something unique and beautiful for your outdoor living space.
