Never Neglect Curb Appeal: Simple DIY Tips For Your Frontscape!

July 17, 2014 | By webadmin

Are you selling your home, entertaining summer guests, or just in search of a refresh for your front landscape? Curb appeal is always in style! It’s easy to be the envy of your neighbors, and the apple of your realtor’s eye, by keeping your front landscape fresh. Here are a few simple tips to help you keep your curb appeal.

Keep your lawn properly mowed. A freshly mowed lawn gives your property a manicured look. Most turf grasses will require mowing once weekly. Keep your sidewalks and driveways cleanly edged with a trimmer. Remember: In the hot summer, you should set your mower to the maximum height for St. Augustine grass in order to conserve moisture. Colorful Containers: This is the easiest way to brighten your home’s entry way and create a focal point. Simple terracotta or colorful pottery never go out of style. Fill containers with perennials as a foundation and change out annual color with the seasons. Don’t let color fade past its season – pop in new color when temperatures change. Place on front porches, walkways or directly into garden beds.

Paint your door an eye-catching color! Who says color is limited to just the blooms? Love red? Match bright red pottery or bench to your colorful front door! A painted door is a great way to tie in colors from the landscape.

Bring seating to the front porch or yard. Add a quick stone patio, a comfortable bistro set and sit outside with neighbors, family and friends. Add a chiminea in winter and you’ve created a year round outdoor social space.

Don’t limit yourself. While it is always suggested to have a foundation of evergreen shrubs, don’t limit yourself to just boxwoods or hollies. Mahonia, nandina, loropetalum and Texas sage also make great foundation shrubs. Here in North Texas, we are lucky to have blooming material year-round – from pansies in winter, to purslane in the heat of summer. Want one less project to worry about? We can help switch out your landscape color all year!

Often, foundation beds are too narrow for both the plants and the look of the landscape. If your beds need to be extended to a better scale, we can help design bedding shapes and stone borders that accent your home and give it extra curb appeal. We also can help you choose hardscaping material to compliment the style of your home. Contact us here for more options!
